Dar Es Salaam

Depart SFO on the 17th, arriving into Dar Es Salaam the next day, per your own arrangements. Upon arrival, your driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall for private transfer to your hotel.

This bustling metropolis is Tanzania’s capital and largest city. Although seen by most during a brief stop in “Dar” before heading to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, do a safari in the Serengeti or relax on the pristine beaches of Zanzibar, it has much more to offer. From culture to beaches, shopping and food, there is something for everyone in this vibrant and laidback, East African city.

Most notably, there are a few markets you can visit. The Dar Es Salaam Fish Market, where people gather early in the morning from around the city to buy the fresh catch of the day. Make sure to arrive early to see the bustling auctions and buy the freshest fish. The other must-visit market is Kariakoo, which has the best deals on anything and everything you can imagine, and will give you the best look into authentic Tanzanian shopping. Don’t be afraid to haggle!

Dar Es Salaam is an evolving city, full of life, culture, and plenty to do. Although the largest city in Tanzania, it maintains a chill, easy going vibe that anyone can appreciate.

Serengeti National Park

The morning of the 24th, meet back up with your driver for onward transfer to the Serengeti.

The long revered and wild Serengeti is one of those places that words cannot do justice. Sunrises and sunsets over the vast expanses of the park are unlike any other. There is no better place on earth to see wildlife in action. Famous for the perpetual, cyclical migration of over a million hoofed animals from Zebras to Wildebeest, searching for fresh grasslands, this wilderness landscape in Northern Tanzania is a must-visit.

In addition to millions of herd animals, predators like lions, leopards, hyenas and cheetahs quietly lurk in the background waiting to strike. Elephants, giraffes, hippopotamuses, baboons, and over 500 species of birds are common sightings on these immense plains, making the Serengeti National Park a wildlife and birding hotspot.

A guided jeep-safari tour is the only way to get the full Serengeti experience. Accommodations vary from camp-like living quarters to upscale and luxurious lodging, but the Serengeti is accessible to all wildlife lovers and adventurers.

Enjoy stays at two different lodges, reveling in the impressive wildlife and scenery surrounding you.

Ngorongoro Crater

The morning of the 28th, continue on to The Ngorongoro Crater.

The Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania was once a gargantuan volcano, perhaps taller than Mt. Kilimanjaro before its eruption.

What’s left is the world’s largest intact volcanic crater, home to an abundance of wildlife and dramatic vista after dramatic vista. Filled with expansive grassland, this animal haven is an ideal place to glimpse the Big Five: lion, rhinoceros, elephant, leopard, and cape buffalo.

This national park, teeming with animal life, features some of nature’s most majestic beasts in some of world’s most miraculous landscapes. If you are lucky enough to visit between February and March, you may even witness the Serengeti’s Great Migration, one of the most jaw-dropping spectacles of the natural world.

Travellers may also engage in meaningful cultural interaction with the Maasai tribe, many of whom pursue their traditional lifestyle within the crater. You can stay at a top-notch resort on the crater’s rim or luxury tents in the grasslands.

Ngorongoro will remind you of nature’s beauty and power, while offering a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife experience.

Arusha

This morning, you will be picked up and transferred to Arusha. Enjoy a relaxing lunch in town before your onward flight to Zanzibar.

Arusha, a vibrant city in Tanzania of about half a million people, is the springboard for many unparalleled adventures. Within arms reach of many renowned national parks, it’s the perfect place to start any Tanzanian safari experience.

This bustling city has top-notch hotels and restaurants, while offering the opportunity for in-depth cultural exploration. However, this bustle is overwhelming for some. Downtown is polluted and congested, and tourists may be hounded by persistent salesmen, some of whom propose sketchy, ingenuine deals.

Still, after wandering the colorful markets, hearing the chatter of Swahili in the streets, or simply decompressing by the pool, most visitors end up finding Arusha endearing.

As most tourists visit as a part of a larger safari or a trip to Mt. Kilimanjaro, Arusha provides a necessary, relaxing respite from the African road.

Zanzibar

Depart Arusha and continue on to Zanzibar. Upon arrival, your driver will be waiting to greet you in the arrivals hall for private transfer to your airbnb.

With Zanzibar’s sparkling white sand and its brilliant turquoise water, you’ll be hard pressed to find more picturesque beaches anywhere else in the world.

Its world-class resorts, tucked between swaying palms and soaked in the tropical sun, offer the optimal relaxing getaway. Seemingly in spite of its idyllic scenery, Zanzibar claims a dense and sometimes turbulent history. This eclectic archipelago has seen everything from a booming slave trade, to a violent revolution, to the birth of Freddie Mercury.

Due to its location off the Tanzanian coast, Zanzibar became a primary trade hub in the Indian Ocean, bringing together Africa, India, and the Middle East. Each of these regions left its respective mark on Zanzibar, now home to a rich, intercontinental blend of culture unique to the island enclave.

Whether it’s wandering the cobbled streets of the historical Stone Town, sailing the iconic dhows across the balmy seas, or reclining on the beach with a piñacolada, any traveller can experience Zanzibar’s flair deserving of the title “the Spice Islands.”

On the 4th, meet your driver for private transfer back to the airport. Head back to Dar Es Salaam to connect on to your evening flight home, arriving back to SFO on the 5th.
